Fascinating video from the Guardian’s excellent Energy/ Environment pages. Sadly no embed code so link is here.
Solar energy in the UK took a bit of a bump this week as it emerged the government plans to reduce feed-in tariffs by a large amount – although the long term effect of this is unknowable since over time the equipment price is bound to reduce.
Of course renewables aren’t just on a small scale any more – Scottish power gas companies make their electricity from a mix of sources including hydro power, and so on.
One of the most interesting thing in the video is where the guy says how much of the desert would need to be given over to solar in order for all our electricity to be provided. Spoiler warning: percentage wise, not a lot!
